FAQs for the 2024 Lafayette Community Day Saturday, June 1.

the  Do I need to register to volunteer for Community Day?

Yes! Everyone needs to register whether they select their project in April during the pre-selection timeframe or they select a project the morning of Community Day. Please click here to register.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. The City of Lafayette requires that everyone signs a waiver! When registering to volunteer you’ll be able to access and complete the waiver. Be sure to mark YES to indicate that you have signed the waiver.

Can I select my project ahead of time?

Yes! Everyone is asked to select a project online before May 24. Project will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

What is the deadline to register to be a volunteer?

All those who want to volunteer need to be register AND sign this year’s waiver by Monday, May 24.

What can I expect at the LCD Project Fair the morning of June 1?

The Fair starts at 8 am in the Plaza. Registrants will have the opportunity to learn about this year’s participating nonprofit organizations.

What types of volunteer projects will there be this year?

The projects will include gardening, clearing out riverbeds, picking up litter, painting, cleaning structures inside and outside, making crafts and useful items for newly housed individuals/families, assembling care packages, potting succulent plants, participating in a community bike ride and learning about bike safety, and more. This year, we’ve added projects that a family can do together.

Is there a 2024 LCD t-shirt?

Yes, the first 100 to arrive at the Plaza on Community Day will receive this year’s commemorative t-shirt.

Should people bring items to donate?

Yes! We will be collecting non-perishable food items and gently-used clothing. Our hope is to collect at least 200 items for each of these donation drives. Collection bins will be located in the Plaza.

How old do volunteers need to be?

All ages are welcome! Some projects require volunteers to be 16 years or older. Those under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult. Family-friendly projects and art acivities are open to all ages with adult supervision.

What should I wear?

We recommend long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and closed-toed shoes are recommended for any outdoor clean-up projects. Be prepared to get dirty!

What should I plan to bring with me?

Bring a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. If you are participating in a clean up project, bring your work gloves. And of course, donaTons for the food and clothing drives!

What’s for lunch?

It’s a BBQ catered by All The Smoke. There will be gluten-free items available.

Is lunch free to those who sign up to volunteer?

Yes! Lunch is free for all those who registered as well as those from our partner organization. Non-registered folks are encouraged to go to the Sideboard.

Can others attend who did not sign-up?

Yes. Those who have not registered to volunteer can attend to enjoy music by Random Nature and activities in the Plaza that start around 11:00.

Who are the project hosts this year?

Local nonprofit organizations and the City of Lafayette are hosting the projects. Go to LafayetteCommunityDay.org to learn more.

Will tables be available for the project hosts at the Project Fair?

Yes! Every project host organization will have a table to display information about their organization.

What should the project hosts provide?

The project hosts are responsible for all supplies, setup, and any necessary items at their assigned project site. There will be additional details discussed with each of the individual project hosts.

Who are the presenting partners for the annual Lafayette Community Day?

The Community Foundation of Lafayette, the City of Lafayette, and the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce work together to make this special day possible every year on the first Saturday in June.

Are there any bathroom facilities available?

Yes. Porta-potties will be on-site at the Plaza.

Where do I park?

The best place to park is in one of the city parking lots off Golden Gate Way (from the Plaza to the lot located east of 1st Street). Free parking until 3 pm! This does not pertain to the street parking.
