FAQs for the 4th Annual Lafayette Community Day on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Do I need to register to volunteer for Community Day?
Yes! EVERYONE needs to register AND sign the Event Waiver online from April 7 – 25.
Do I need to sign a waiver?
Yes! The City of Lafayette requires that everyone signs the Waiver! When registering to volunteer you’ll be able to access and complete this. Be sure to mark YES to confirm that you have indeed agreed to the terms and requirements outlined in the Waiver.
Can I select my project ahead of time?
Yes! Everyone must select a project online before April 25. Projects will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. We only have 200 volunteer spots so register early. If you want to register as a group, email us at [email protected].
What is the deadline to register to be a volunteer?
April 25th is the FINAL day to register and sign the Waiver.
What can I expect at this year’s Community Day?
Registered volunteers arrive at the Plaza at 8:30am. The send-off Rally is at 9am then we leave for our selected projects. Everyone returns to the Plaza by 11:30am for the Celebration – lunch for volunteers, music in the Park, games and activities, a Nonprofit Fair, ends at 1pm. What types of volunteer projects will there be this year?
Gardening, clearing out riverbeds, picking up litter, painting, cleaning structures inside and outside, making crafts and useful items for newly housed individuals/families, assembling care packages, potting succulent plants, and more. We’ve added more family projects this year! When you register, you’ll be able to see all of the options. Slots fill up quickly so sign up today.
How old do volunteers need to be?
All ages and abilities are invited! Some projects require volunteers to be 16 years or older. Those under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. Family-friendly projects and art activities are open to all ages with adult supervision. Email [email protected] with questions.
What should I wear?
We suggest long sleeves and pants, closed-toe shoes, a hat, and lather on the sunscreen. Be prepared to get dirty! And of course, wear your LCD T-shirt if you have one.
What else should I plan to bring with me?
DEFINITELY a water bottle, with your name/cell phone number on it. Bring work gloves for gardening and clean-up projects.
Is there a Food Drive this year?
Yes! The official DRIVE-BY site is at Lafayette Elementary School from 9:15 – 11:30. There will also be a bin in the Plaza. These donations will benefit our local Food Bank.
What’s for lunch?
Rancho Cantina is catering a delicious Mexican feast, with vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Who is being treated to this lunch?
This is a big THANK YOU to everyone who has registered – Volunteers, Project Hosts, and Sponsors. Everyone must register and sign the Waiver to receive a lunch band.
Can others come to the Plaza?
Yes, of course! Non-registered Lafayette residents are welcome to listen to the band – Random Nature and play games. Consider packing your own picnic or order one from Sideboard! The festivities are from 11:30am – 1pm.
Who are this year’s Project Hosts this year?
Local Nonprofit Organizations, the City, and Republic Services. Visit LafayetteCommunityDay.org for the list of Project Hosts and our Leading and Event Sponsors.
What color is this year’s T-shirt?
Orange! Registered volunteers need to mark YES for a T-shirt and can request a size.
Can I pick up a T-shirt ahead of time?
Yes! Pick up a T-shirt at the Lafayette Chamber at 251 Lafayette Circle on Thursday, May 1 from 9am – 4pm and on Friday, May 2 from 9am – 1pm. The remaining T-shirts will be available at the Welcome Table in the Plaza on Saturday at 8:30am. NOTE: WE HAVE A LIMITED QUANTITY OF T-SHIRTS AND SIZES.
Can I wear my LCD T-shirt from a previous year?
Yes! We encourage it!
Will there be a Nonprofit Fair at this year’s Lafayette Community Day?
Yes! All of this year’s Project Hosts are able to have a presence in the Plaza from 11:30am – 1pm. These organizations can set up in the Plaza and at their Project Sites as early as 7am.
Can any nonprofit organization have a presence at Nonprofit Fair this year?
No. Due to space, this opportunity is only available to the nonprofit organizations that raised their hand to host a volunteer project this year.
Will tables be available at the Nonprofit Fair in the Plaza?
No. Participating Project Host organizations are asked to bring their own table, chairs, pop-up, signage, display, and whatever else that’s needed. These tables can be set up as early as 7am.
What are the the Project Hosts responsible for provide at their individual project sites?
All supplies, setup, and any necessary items at their assigned project site. If you require electricity or have any special requests, specific details will be discussed with each of the Project Hosts ahead of time. You can email questions to [email protected].
Are there any bathroom facilities available?
Yes! Porta-potties with handwashing stations will be on-site at the Plaza.
Where do I park?
The best parking places are in the City parking lot off Golden Gate Way and street parking on Golden Gate Way. The City is providing us with free parking until 3 pm on May 3!
Is there a media kit for partners, sponsors, project hosts, and others to help spread the word?
Yes! Go to LafayetteCommunityDay.org for this year’s social media tool kit. Spread the word!
